The first years
The farm was established in 1988 when Cesare and Adelina decide to by a ruin, with the idea of making the most of the wonderfully rich earth in the Maremma area but at the same time be near to the sea.
Thanks to the vicinity to Rome, even though we are actually in Tuscany, the house in Capalbio soon becomes the place to spend many an unforgettable weekend.
After some time, with constant renovations and optimisation of the grounds being carried out, that ruin and land that had stole the hearts of the family, becomes a real home. Equipped from the beginning with a vegetable garden, a stable and a chicken run, the first steps had been taken towards becoming what would soon turn into a wine farm.
The name “Il Ponte”
(in other words, The Bridge, a term used when a bank holiday occurs near to a weekend and creates a long holiday weekend!):
The name “Il Ponte” comes from the desire to create a place to spend quality family time:
- Far enough away (but not too far!) to perceive to be in a different place from where ordinary daily life takes place;
- So special as to make the family eager to return and make the most of every opportunity, especially the bank-holidays, and therefore spend “the ponte” there.
Together with the children Salvatore, Lorenzo and Emanuele, The Ponte becomes that special place where school and work can almost be forgotten..
Soon the house becomes a favourite place for both parents and children:
- the smallest can spend their days riding around on their bicycles or running after a football,
- the adults can relax and banquet leisurely (on the terrace in the summer or in front of the fire in winter) or enjoy relaxing walks with friends, family and meditate on how generous their land can be.

From ruin to farmhouse, from farmhouse to Farming Business.
As the saying goes, an acre of land can contain a million lives. These are the elements that create the difference between an arid piece of land and a fertile one. It is this mind set that takes the farm to its next level:
-Succeed in portraying the beauty of one’s own land and manage to translate this within the contents of a bottle of wine or olive oil.
-Transform that old ruin into a working farm business.

Although in the first years the farm would take the grapes produced to the local “Cooperativa di Capalbio”, the family decide to start their own business. Each family member therefore takes on a specific role, Cesare, Adelina, Salvatore, Lorenzo ed Emanuele, aided by a series of expert collaborators, to enable them to set up their own cellar. The adventure begins, and their wine-making and olive oil production commences!
As well as selling our products directly in the farm shop and in our online shop, we guide clients and visitors around the Estate, offering wine and olive oil tastings complete with a light meal . For children, or whoever is interested in visiting the countryside, we organise guided walks through the vineyards and amongst our animals amongst our animals.
